Short Bio:

Prof. Jianbing Chen specializes in the area of earthquake engineering and stochastic mechanics. Specifically, he is working on the development of a family of probability density evolution method for response analysis and reliability evaluation of structures involving randomness both in the system parameters and excitations. Dr. Chen received a Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering from Northeastern University in 1997 and a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Tongji University, China in 2002. He is currently a full professor on the faculty at Tongji University in the School of Civil Engineering.

Dr. Chen has received awards including the First-class National Natural Science Award Nominated by the Ministry of Education of China in 2005, Nominated Award of the National Excellent Doctoral Thesis in 2005, Excellent Young Teacher Award in Shanghai City in 2006, and was selected to the Program of New Century Excellent Talents by the Ministry of Education (MOE) of China in 2007 and elected to the Program of "Dawn Scholar (Shuguang Scholar) " in Shanghai in 2011, and was the recipient of "Huo Ying Dong Prize" of MOE in 2012, and the "National Outstanding Scientific and Technological Workers" in 2014. He is a member in the Excellent Research Group in Disaster Prevention in Civil Engineering granted by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and the Principal Investigator (PI) of three projects granted by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and a project of ‘863’ Plan granted by the Ministry of Science and Technology of China.

Dr. Chen is the author of 4 books (including an English monograph) and the co-author of over 170 technical publications in the fields of structural stochastic analysis and reliability theory, which are well cited by researchers in different fields such as civil, mechanical, aerospace and marine engineering, ect. Dr. Chen was among the "Most Cited Chinese Researchers in China in 2014 (Civil and Structural Engineering)". He is currently the member of Joint Committee on Structural Safety (JCSS), of IFIP WG7.5, and the vice chairman and the Treasurer of the Random Vibration Committee of Chinese Society of Vibration Engineering, ect..

    • PDEM based dynamic reliability and its form mechanism of large complex structures , granted by the Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) (Principal investigator: Dr. Jianbing Chen), 2012-2015.
